1) Smartphone video is the fastest growing online ad format:
According to the latest IAB Digital Adspend report, UK advertisers spent £476 million more on smartphone video ads than in 2017. This makes it the fastest growing ad format this year, after an increase of 69% from 2016. 2) Amazon is now the UK’s 5th biggest retailer:
According to new data by the analytics firm GlobalData, Amazon’s online sales growth outpaced the online trend in the UK, growing 22.5% compared with the UK average of 8.4% in 2017. Amazon now accounts for £4 of every £100 spent in retail in the UK.
3) An easy to navigate site is more important to users than design or personalisation:
A recent study of 1000 consumers by Acquia discovered 'easy navigation' is important to 65% of users, whereas design was important to 13% and engaging content 11%.
4) Chrome continues to be most popular browser in the UK:
For April 2018, the browser market share in the UK was:
Chrome - 46.76%
Safari - 30.35%
IE - 5.43%
Firefox - 5.18%
Edge - 5%
Samsung Internet - 2.73%
5) Facebook ad spend in Q1 grows 62% in spite of Cambridge Analytica Scandal:
Ad spend on Facebook grew by 62% in the first quarter of 2018. In the week the Cambridge Analytica news broke (17 March) spend was up 7% week over week, and the following week it was up 15%. Although consumer confidence was affected by the scandal, advertiser's expenditure was clearly not.
